Resilience

Spring 2019 Professional Development Day

A fair amount of Humboldt students have overcome enormous obstacles to be here on campus. What assisted students from non-privileged backgrounds? Students from historically and recently marginalized communities? This workshop will offer and introduce participants a concept of "protective factors". Factors such as family, mentors, identity and traditional culture, ritual, ceremony.  Participants will hone their interview skills to respectfully engage and assist students to identify and draw strength from their "protective factors".

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify at least two skills to respectfully engage individuals from marginalized populations;
  • Gain confidence and comfort to utilize trust/rapport to work with/alongside students from marginalized populations; and
