This four-hour workshop (divided into 2 two-hour segments) will offer an introduction to the concept of whiteness, the significance of whiteness in our everyday lives, and how whiteness shapes our interactions. We will examine how whiteness affects various systems of advantage and what that looks like in our community.

A fair amount of HSU students have overcome enormous obstacles to be here on campus. What assisted students from non-privileged backgrounds? Students from historically and recently marginalized communities? This workshop will offer and introduce participants a concept of "protective factors".

We will define common terms, provide reflective opportunities, and explore concrete actions to grow in the skills-based competencies of talking and thinking about racial equity and inclusion.
