Digitally Enhanced Teaching: Transparent Assignment Design + Rubric
Transparency in assignment design is fundamentally about managing expectations. Transparent assignments lay out the skills we want students to practice, the insights we want them to come to, and the criteria for doing successful work. When students know what is expected of them (intellectually and behaviorally), they tend to report higher levels of confidence in doing academic work, a greater sense of belonging, and are able to better articulate the skills they are building as they progress through the course. Based on research from the Transparency in Teaching and Learning (TILT) project at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, this live session will explore simple transparent design strategies that can be easily incorporated into the digital teaching environment.
