Ease Into Summer
As pandemic restrictions lighten up, you may find yourself feeling pressure to make up for lost time. Last summer we were all cloistered in our homes, still lost in the fog of what was happening. Adjusting to working from home, managing family life in a whole new way, worried. So it’s natural to engage in some FOMO (fear of missing out) as you start seeing family and friends getting out and about.
An article I read recently highlighted some ideas for resetting our expectations and finding greater ease as we head into summer:
Skip the focus on accomplishment and perfection. Allow yourself and (if you’ve got ‘em) your kids time to engage in things that bring you true joy.
Make some plans for the summer. “Easy” and “fun” are keywords to keep in mind!
Pay attention to your own needs when social opportunities arise. Some people are eager to gather in large groups (still following appropriate protocols, of course!). But others are still readjusting to having a social life again, and may find their joy in solitude or very small groups. You get to decide what’s right for you.
Lighten up. A lot. We’ve been collectively carrying a sense of gravity for well over a year now. What makes you laugh? What brings you joy? Do that.
As you focus on what’s right for you, also keep in mind that means different things to different people. Extend grace and understanding if someone is in a different place than you are. Don’t take it personally. They’re just easing into summer.
