People-Centered Change Leadership
Recently, in partnership with the President’s Office and other campus partners, we launched the campus-wide Change Management Initiative (CMI), a response to employee desire for greater inclusivity and communication when change occurs at Humboldt. That interest and concern was noticed by WASCUC evaluators, and they called attention to it in their recommendations for our University.
What is “change management”, though? And how can it benefit you?
In the field of organizational development, “change management” is a technical term for what could more appropriately be called “people-centered change leadership”, and supports improvement and innovation. It is a practice of ensuring all stakeholders involved in a change process are routinely and fully informed prior to and during a change taking place, given open opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback, and actively supported and engaged throughout the change process.
More than 20 colleagues representing every Division of the University have stepped up to be part of this work, and to support their colleagues in its implementation. They will serve as your coaches and ambassadors, and as key collaborators as we refine our approach.
As this initiative develops, we are offering monthly classes on the basics of “change management”, and advanced classes focused on implementation of these practices starting later this year. Should you have any questions please contact Nancy Olson or Billie Herman, who are leading this initiative.
